Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 April 2026

Introduction

PetrolFinder.uk (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a free fuel price comparison service for the United Kingdom. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

What Data We Collect

When you create an account and use PetrolFinder.uk, we may collect the following data:

  • Account information: Your name and email address, collected and managed through our authentication provider, Supabase Auth.
  • Station reviews: Star ratings and review text you submit for fuel stations. When you submit a review, your display name is derived from the local part of your email address (the part before the @). For example, if your email is [email protected], your review will appear under the name “jane.smith”. This name is visible to all visitors.
  • Price confirmations: When you confirm a fuel price at a station, we record the confirmation along with your user identifier.
  • Fuel logbook entries: Vehicle information (make, model, registration) and fill-up records (date, station, litres, cost) that you voluntarily add to your logbook.
  • Receipt images: If you use the receipt scanning feature, your receipt image is sent to Google Gemini for data extraction. We do not store the receipt image itself — only the extracted data (fuel type, litres, price, station) is saved to your logbook.
  • Location data: If you use the “Use my location” feature, your browser will ask for permission. This data is used solely to find nearby stations and is not stored.

How We Use Your Data

We use your data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the PetrolFinder.uk service
  • To authenticate your account and manage sign-in sessions
  • To display your reviews and price confirmations to other users
  • To store and display your fuel logbook entries to you
  • To extract data from receipt images for your logbook
  • To improve the quality and reliability of the service
  • To moderate user-generated content and enforce our community guidelines

We do not use your data for marketing, advertising, or profiling purposes. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes.

Lawful Basis for Processing

Under the UK GDPR, we process your personal data on the following lawful bases:

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide you with the service you have signed up for (account management, logbook, reviews).
  • Legitimate interests: Improving the service, moderating content, and preventing abuse.
  • Consent: Where you voluntarily provide data such as location access or receipt images.
